The main types of basketball hoops are in-ground, portable, wall-mounted, roof-mounted and poolside systems. Gyms may also use ceiling-mounted equipment. Adjustable or fixed-height describes the height setup, while indoor or outdoor describes the environment—those labels overlap with several mounting types.
Start with how your court will be used: a driveway that stays a basketball court, a shared gym that must clear for other activities, or a public court with unsupervised play. Narrow the mounting style first, then compare basketball goals and hoop systems that fit the project.
Which type fits your court?
- Dedicated driveway or outdoor court: consider an in-ground goal if a suitable footing can be installed.
- A goal that needs to move: compare portable goals, including transport and storage requirements.
- A gym with a suitable supporting wall: review wall-mounted goals and whether a folding system is useful.
- A facility planning overhead equipment: consider ceiling-mounted systems alongside the building requirements.
- Basketball at the water's edge: select a poolside system intended for that environment.
In-ground basketball hoops
An in-ground system supports the backboard from a post installed with a concrete footing. It suits a dedicated playing area where the goal does not need to be rolled away. Direct-burial and bolt-down arrangements require different planning, so check the selected model before starting concrete work.

A bolt-down option can help with future relocation, but moving it still requires disassembly and a suitable new installation.
Portable basketball hoops
Portable goals have a base that can be moved into position. The category includes residential driveway systems and substantial facility equipment; two portable models are not necessarily suitable for the same use.
We recommend portable when you need to move the goal. Measure the storage opening and transport route, and review the model's ballast and moving instructions. Tell us about slopes, surface changes or rough terrain before ordering. Wall-mounted and roof-mounted hoops
A wall-mounted system keeps a post or portable base off the playing surface. It still needs a suitable supporting structure and enough space for the backboard's position over the court. Limited space alone does not establish that a wall mount will work.

A roof-mounted system attaches to a suitable roof structure and is a separate installation category. Do not treat it as a wall-mounted goal with different fasteners. Review the manufacturer's installation requirements for either choice.
Ceiling-mounted hoops
Ceiling-mounted equipment supports the goal from overhead building structure. Plan the court layout, structure, operating clearances and other gym equipment together. Our ceiling-mounted systems are a separate buying path for these facility projects.
Poolside basketball hoops
Choose equipment designed for pool exposure, and verify its mounting requirements, deck position and care instructions. An ordinary outdoor hoop is not automatically a poolside system.

Adjustable, fixed-height, indoor and outdoor
An adjustable hoop changes playing height; a fixed-height setup is selected to stay at its intended height. Either description can apply to more than one mounting type. Indoor and outdoor identify the environment. Check that the complete system, backboard, rim and finish suit the actual location. If a facility plans league or tournament play, review its governing rules and full equipment requirements before purchasing; backboard size alone does not prove compliance.
Before you order
- Identify the players, supervision and expected play.
- Measure the court and space around the supports, including storage and transport routes.
- Confirm installation feasibility using the manufacturer's documents.
- Choose backboard size and material within the suitable system category.
