A broken backboard does not always mean buying a whole new basketball hoop. If you have a heavy-duty adjustable in-ground goal with a sound structure, First Team’s RENOVA36 or RENOVA42 may give you a way to replace the backboard assembly while keeping your existing pole.
The right starting point is the goal you already own. At Quality Hoops, we check warranty options first for First Team equipment. For other brands, we start with mounting-bracket photos and measurements. Then we can help you work out whether a replacement kit makes sense.
Ask us about your existing goal before ordering. Include the brand and model if available, photos of the brackets behind the board, and your mounting measurements.
If it is First Team, check the warranty first
When someone calls us about a broken First Team backboard, our first conversation is about First Team’s warranty. Before spending money on replacement equipment, find out what coverage applies to your original goal and the type of damage.
Different First Team products and packages carry different warranty levels. Coverage is subject to the model’s terms, ownership requirements and exclusions; it is not an automatic promise that every broken board will be replaced free of charge. First Team’s basketball warranties are generally for the original purchaser and are not transferable.
Send us your model information and any purchase records you have, along with photos of the damage. We can help you identify the relevant First Team warranty terms and the appropriate next step.
When the original brand cannot supply a replacement
We also hear from people who bought a lower-cost basketball goal and later discovered that finding replacement parts is difficult. In some cases, the original system does not offer a practical replacement backboard, leaving the customer facing the cost of another complete unit.
That is where a refurbishing kit is worth investigating. Rather than finding a loose board that happens to look similar, you are considering a replacement assembly with a mounting structure intended to accommodate different attachment arrangements.
RENOVA gives owners of compatible heavy-duty adjustable goals another option when the original board is unavailable. It still needs a fit check. A brand name, board width or familiar-looking bracket is not enough to approve a kit.
RENOVA or RetroFit? RetroFit kits are for playground-style structures, such as a fixed post on a park or school court; see RetroFit42 and RetroFit36. RENOVA kits are the route we look at for lower-cost adjustable goals whose original maker can’t supply a board, as long as the goal meets First Team’s requirements in the table below.
RENOVA36 vs. RENOVA42: the essential differences
| Check before buying | RENOVA36 | RENOVA42 |
|---|---|---|
| Replacement board dimensions | 36 × 60 inches | 42 × 72 inches |
| Available board materials | Acrylic, tempered glass or aluminum | Acrylic or tempered glass |
| Original backboard weight requirement | At least 115 lb | At least 220 lb |
| Original board width restriction | 60 inches or less | Confirm the existing system with us |
| Intended goal type | Heavy-duty adjustable in-ground | Heavy-duty adjustable in-ground |
| Portable goal use | Not suitable | Not suitable |
| Compare packages | Shop RENOVA36 | Shop RENOVA42 |
The weight limits refer to the original backboard. They are not the shipping weight of the new kit or a suggestion to add ballast. If you do not know your original board’s weight, send us the model and available documentation so it can be checked.
What comes in the kit?
Both RENOVA families include a mounting bracket, selected backboard, rim and net. The existing pole and height-adjustment mechanism are retained, not supplied in the package. The bracket’s four attachment points can be positioned to match different support layouts, subject to compatibility review.

Start with compatibility, then select the material and package. Our glass vs. acrylic guide can help with the material decision after the fit is established. Do not select a larger kit simply because you prefer a wider board.
What photos and measurements should you send?
For a goal from another manufacturer, the most useful photos show the mounting brackets. A front view tells us what the board looks like; the connections behind it tell us much more about how a replacement could attach.
- Brand and model: photograph any label and include the model number or original paperwork.
- Bracket views: send clear photos from behind and from the side, showing all the board attachment points.
- Mounting measurements: measure the attachment spacing horizontally and vertically, with a tape measure visible where possible.
- Existing board: include its width, height, material and documented original weight if known.
- Structure and condition: show the pole, base or anchor area, adjustment mechanism and any rust or damage.
Gather what you can without taking apart the damaged assembly. If a connection is hidden or a measurement is uncertain, tell us. Do not guess at the information that determines fit. For a broader explanation of replacement options, see our basketball backboard replacement guide.
Email is the easiest way to send all of this. Send your photos and measurements to [email protected]. We pull up the submittal drawings and check fit and placement, and if a question remains, we take it to First Team before recommending a kit.
When would we recommend a whole new goal?
In our buying conversations, damage or rust at the base is the main reason we move from refurbishing the backboard to discussing a complete replacement. A new board does not repair the structure carrying it.
Show us the affected area, including the pole’s lower section and the base or anchor connection. Have a qualified installer assess questionable structural damage or corrosion before new equipment is installed. The decision is about the condition of what you plan to keep, not just the broken board.
A sound structure still needs an approved replacement path. If the existing goal falls outside the RENOVA requirements and no compatible original replacement is available, we can help compare complete in-ground basketball goals.
Does RENOVA fit inexpensive or portable hoops?
Do not assume it does. RENOVA36 and RENOVA42 are intended for heavy-duty adjustable in-ground goals. First Team specifically excludes portable goals, and the original-board weight requirements rule out many lightweight systems.
These kits can solve a difficult replacement problem across different brands, but they are not universal replacements for every basketball hoop. Send us the existing goal information before treating either kit as the answer.
Is refurbishing worth the cost?
Compare the complete installed job. For a kit, include the selected package, freight, removal of the damaged assembly and installation. For a new system, include the goal and any foundation or installation work it requires.
Keeping a suitable existing structure may reduce the scope of the job. The useful comparison is what it takes to get your particular court back in service, rather than the price of a loose backboard versus a complete goal. The RENOVA product pages show current package prices and technical documents.
Shipping and returns
RENOVA kits usually ship by freight. Plan on up to 9 to 12 business days in total, worst case: 2 business days of processing, with a 3 PM Central cutoff, plus 7 to 10 business days of shipping. Orders placed after the cutoff or on a weekend begin processing the next business day, and no delivery date is guaranteed. See our shipping information and freight delivery rules before your delivery appointment.
Under our refund policy, you can request a return within 30 days of receiving the item. Ordinary returns carry a 35% restocking fee, and you arrange and pay for return freight; the fee is waived for items damaged in shipping. Custom products and sale items cannot be returned. Checking the fit first saves you that cost.
